Mettmann liegt im Niederbergischen Land und blickt auf eine über 1100- jährige Geschichte zurück. Über- regional ist Mettmann vor allem für das weltberühmte Neandertal bekannt, weshalb die Stadt den Beinamen Neanderthal-Stadt trägt. In den 1960er Jahren wurde die mittelalterliche Innenstadt großflächig umgebaut. Dabei wurden leider viele historisch bedeutsame Bauwerke abgerissen. Gleichwohl gelang es Teile der historischen Oberstadt, vor allem rund um die Kirche St.Lambertus, zu erhalten. Es lohnt diesen Teil der Stadt, mit etlichen Restaurants und Kneipen zu besuchen.
The city is located in the Nieder- bergisches Land and looks back on over 1100 years of history. Mettmann is best known nationwide for the world-famous Neandertal, which is why the city is nicknamed the Neanderthal City. In the 1960s, the medieval city center was extensively rebuilt. Unfortunately, many historically significant buildings were demolished. Nevertheless, parts of the historic upper town, especially around the Church of St. Lambertus, were able to be preserved. It is worth visiting this part of the city with a number of restaurants and bars.
Das Neandertal gehört wohl zu den bekanntesten Orten der Welt. Neben dem Fund des Neandertalers vor 160 Jahren und der damit einhergehenden menschheitsgeschichtlichen Bedeutung ist es heute ebenfalls ein Ausflugsziel für Naturliebhaber und Wanderer. Das Neanderthal Museum, die Fundstelle des Neandertaler sowie das Eiszeitliche Wildgehege nahe der Düssel eignen sich bestens für einen Tagesausflug. Auf dem Spaziergang um das Wildgehege im Neandertal kann man urtümliche Wisente, Tarpane und Auerochsen beobachten. Auf 23 Hektar leben die Tiere auf bewaldeten Hängen und Hoch- und Talwiesen. Einen guten Blick auf das Gelände erhält man von der Aussichtsplattform in Erkrath. Das Gehege ist rund um die Uhr und kostenlos zugänglich.
The Neandertal is probably one of the most famous places in the world. In addition to the discovery of the Neanderthal man 160 years ago and the associated importance in human history, today it is also a destination for nature lovers and hikers. The Neanderthal Museum, the site where Neanderthals were found and the Ice Age game reserve near the Düssel are ideal for a day trip. On a walk around the game reserve, you can observe primeval wisents, tarpan horses and aurochs. On an area of 23 hectares, the animals live on wooded slopes and low and high pasture grounds. For a good view of the area, visit the small viewing platform in Erkrath. The reserve can be accessed free of charge at all times.
Not far from the Neandertal and Mettmann you will find the Gruiten-Dorf with its well-preserved half-timbered houses. The village represents one of the largest intact historical settlements in North Rhine-Westphalia. The oldest residential building is the "Haus am Quall", of which at least one wing can be dated back to the 14th century. It is worth visiting this beautiful old village. Nicht weit vom Neandertal und Mettmann entfernt findet man den Ortsteil Gruiten-Dorf mit seinen gut erhaltenen Fachwerkhäusern. Das Dorf stellt eine der größten intakten historischen Siedlungen in NRW dar. Ältestes Wohnhaus ist das „Haus am Quall“, von dem zumindest ein Gebäudetrakt auf das 14. Jahrhundert zurückdatiert werden kann. Es lohnt dieses, schöne alte Dorf zu besuchen. Gruiten Dorf

Auch im Kunsthandel Deutschlands ist sie führend. Düsseldorf besitzt mehrere Rheinhäfen. Sein Flughafen Düsseldorf Airport ist das interkontinentale Drehkreuz Nordrhein-Westfalens. Die Stadt ist des Weiteren Sitz von 22 Hochschulen, darunter die renommierte Kunstakademie Düsseldorf und die Heinrich-Heine- Universität. Überregionale Bekanntheit genießt Düsseldorf außerdem durch seine Altstadt („längste Theke der Welt“), seinen Einkaufsboulevard Königsallee („Kö“) und seinen Düsseldorfer Karneval. Weitere Anziehungspunkte sind zahlreiche Museen und Galerien sowie die Rheinuferpromenade und der moderne Medienhafen. Das Stadtbild wird auch durch zahlreiche Hochhäuser und Kirchtürme, den 240 Meter hohen Rheinturm, viele Baudenkmäler und sieben Rheinbrücken geprägt. Bemerkenswert ist die große Anzahl ostasiatischer Einwohner, darunter die japanische Gemeinde, welche die größte japanische Gemeinde und die einzige Japantown Deutschlands bildet.

It also leads the German art trade. Düsseldorf has several Rhine ports. Düsseldorf Airport is the intercontinental hub of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city is also home to 22 institutions of higher education including the prestigious Düsseldorf Arts Academy and Heinrich Heine University. Düsseldorf also enjoys widespread recognition thanks to its Altstadt (old town) (“the longest bar of the world”), its shopping boulevard Königsallee (“Kö”) and Düsseldorf Carnival. Other attractions include numerous museums and galleries, the Rhine promenade and the modern Medienhafen. The cityscape is also characterised by skyscrapers and church steeples, thee 240-metre tall Rhine Tower, many monuments and seven bridges crossing the Rhine. The city notably has a large number of East Asian residents, including the Japanese community, which is the largest Japanese community and the only Japantown in Germany.
